German Alexander Zverev believes it is unfair for Djokovic to have come to Australia and not be allowed to play in the tournament.

The German Alexander Zverev (4) stated in the press conference prior to the start of the Australian Open that “it is not fair to come here and not be able to play the tournament” after his professional partner Novak Djokovic (1) returned to the detention center after his visa was canceled for the second time.

“He had a valid visa, didn’t he? I doubt that he traveled to try his luck without guarantees that he was going to play the tournament. He is a star, if it had not been him, all this drama would not have been created, ”he commented after completing a morning training session on the track.

Zverev, who will open his way against his compatriot Daniel Altmaier, could face Spaniard Rafael Nadal (6) in a hypothetical quarter-final.

Regarding those who will play in the tournament, he assured that “I trained with Rafa and he gave me the impression that he is playing at an incredible level. I think there are many players who have shown to play very well here like Medvedev (2) or Tsitsipas (4)”.

Another of the great favorites, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (4), commented in the press conference prior to that of the German that he regretted that what happened with Djokovic had deprived tennis of shining with all its splendor in the first weeks of preparation in Melbourne Park.

“The issue has received a lot of attention. There hasn’t been enough talk about tennis in the last two weeks. He has been in all the news for the last couple of weeks”, said the Hellenic tennis player who will face Sweden’s Mikael Ymer in the first round.
