With Lionel Messi leading the way, PSG drew 1-1 with Bruges in Belgium for the first matchday of Group A of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League.
The goals of the match were converted by the Spanish Ander Herrera, who connected a center back from the left by Kylian Mbappé, and Hans Vanaken.
Although it had a pale first half, PSG was able to stretch the lead on the scoreboard with some important run by Mbappé and the magic of Messi, who was denied the shout by the crossbar in his 150th match in the Champions League.
Neymar was missing from start to finish, while Keylor Navas was the best saving the visit.
PSG could not change the equation and suffered greatly from the constant attacks from Bruges. Messi had the occasional risk (a powerful left foot that Simon Mignolet covered after associating with Neymar and one that went high), but at times it was difficult against a firm Éder Álvarez Balanta.
It was 1-1 in Belgium, but with more in the debit for the French team. Except for some of the usual Messi plays, Pochettino’s team did not have a good collective performance and they came out to play with great courage.
