The Minister of Health of the Nation, Carla Vizzotti, arrived in the country on Tuesday from Russia, from where she brought more doses of the Sputnik V vaccine and confirmed that there are more than 200 cases of the Delta variant in the country. In addition, he mentioned that its circulation “is close” to becoming a community.
“There are 202 isolated Delta cases and 180 are travel related”said the official at a press conference, after the emergency trip to Russia with the presidential adviser Cecilia Nicolini, to unblock the arrival of second doses of the Sputnik V vaccine.
He further explained that: “Circulation continues to be monitored, which to date is not yet predominant, but is already close to being a community. When a link is not found between the cases or with a traveler, it is said to be communal, but that does not mean that it is predominant. For now the predominant variant in Argentina is the Manaos ”.
Vizzotti assured that “there is no vaccine stored in the refrigerator.” He explained that each immunization that arrives in the country “is in constant movement from the moment it gets off the plane until it reaches the logistics operator, it is distributed in the provinces, then to the vaccinations, shifts are given, applied and registered.”
The controversy arose from the strong statements of the infectious disease doctor Eduardo López, who described the immunization campaign in the country as “failure” because “having five million vaccines in refrigerators.”
The minister said that “when there is a very large intake of doses, the difference widens, and as the vaccines are applied it shrinks until another large intake of vaccines arrives.”
After his return to the country, Vizzotti affirmed that Argentina “is very close to reaching the 50 million doses of vaccines against the coronavirus” received since the start of the vaccination plan., based on the shipments that will arrive in the next few days.
“We are arriving with 1.4 million doses from Moscow: with 400,000 corresponding to component 1 and 250,000 to component 2 and 500 liters of the active substance that go directly for their manufacture to the local laboratory in Richmond”, said.
He also announced that “By the end of this week, we will be receiving 300 thousand doses of component 2 from Richmond and possibly by the beginning of the other, when we have quality control, another 300 thousand.”
“We also have pending to receive another 2.2 million doses of AstraZeneca, between the end of this week and the beginning of next week and two more arrivals from Sinopharm of around 768 thousand and 680 thousand doses each”, added.
In this way, he pointed out that it continues to escalate. “Until now we have exceeded 47.5 million doses and with this number of doses we are very close to 50 million doses received to continue advancing with vaccination,” he said.
