Considered one of the streameuses most popular of the moment on Twitch, Imane Anys, better known as Pokimane, currently has more than 8,4 millions de followers on the streaming platform Twitch. And if recently we had revealed to you how this ever growing popularity could be synonymous with problems for the Moroccan-Canadian streamer, the latter also confessed to us yesterday that she had been the target of a scam having cost him several thousand dollars.
When content creators achieve a certain notoriety, and therefore a certain level of income, many people call on third parties to help them in the management of their business. For streamers for example, this is generally the case with regard to the management of other platforms such as YouTube or TikTok. This is how Pokimane revealed how she is fell into the trap of a scam set up by her former YouTube video manager.
The streamer then revealed yesterday to her fans on Twitch that she had lost $ 24,000 because of a “stupid scam” from his former YouTube manager. At the end of 2019, the rising Twitch star assembled a team of video editors for his YouTube channel, in order to manage the uploading of its videos. Alongside two producers, Pokimane signed with an unknown manager, after the latter had “written multiple pages with an ambitious proposal”, which had convinced the streamer.
This guy wrote me his paragraphs in MLA style, his promises. It was the most convincing thing ever, but I just ended up being her ‘sugar momma’.
Anys revealed on November 24 that she had always struggling to trust new team members, whether they are editors, moderators, managers or other members, due to the scam of his first YouTube manager.
an expensive lesson
The incident, which occurred in late 2019, saw Pokimane pay this “promising guy” three months’ wages, during which the streamer assumed he was organizing things “behind the scenes”. Soon after he joined the team, however, video uploads to his YouTube channel started to slow down, before stopping altogether.
It was a relationship where it took me ages to realize that I was actually just being fooled. He was so good at writing down all these excuses and reasons.
When I discovered it, I was ruthless. I contacted him and demanded to know why we hadn’t uploaded a video, and he sent me five paragraphs telling me he had done this and that.
Pokimane then tried to show viewers on Twitch the original documents, but quickly found out that they had been locked or completely erased.
It was so convincing that I didn’t even sue him.
Every now and then he would tell me he did things, like a Hot Ones-type show. But in reality, he was just making me believe he was doing things, but he wasn’t. It boiled down to, “Dude, I give you $ 8,000 a month, get the job done!”
Then, in the second month, he was gone for a whole week. He said that a member of his family had been sick, and I just had to believe him. I couldn’t prove if he was really lying.
Finally, the 25-year-old decided to become “cold as a stone” during their meetings. However, she only ended up firing him after spending three months’ salary, for a total of $ 24,000., and this so that it does “absolutely nothing”. And the streamer laughs at her mistake: “I was just her sugar momma for a trimester!”.
Pokimane added that, in a way, she was grateful to this manager, that she preferred to keep anonymous, for having done this blow to her. Now she is “much more careful” in her business dealings. This lesson would also have been useful to her recently, when she unveiled her business plan.
