Amir Benayad was in the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal borough at the corner of Roy Est and Rivard streets with friends when an armed individual approached him.

In a context that will have to be clarified, shots were fired. One of the projectiles hit the young football player in the chest.

The killer then ran away. It is not impossible that an accomplice was waiting for him in a nearby car.

“I thought they ran awfully fast. There, I understand that they had an interest in saving themselves, ”explains Manon Croteau, a resident of the sector who witnessed the leak.

Aware of the arrival of help

When they arrived at the crime scene, the paramedics performed resuscitation maneuvers on the young man, who was still conscious. He tragically passed away shortly after in hospital.

Amir Benayad’s father and brothers, who live in the Ahuntsic district, were quickly informed of the tragedy.

Her mother had to be notified by telephone, since she is in Algeria.

She would have suffered an immense shock and would even have had to be hospitalized. The victim and his mother had a very special relationship, according to relatives.

“Her husband told me, ‘I know how she loves him. She loves him more than me”, confided Reda Ezziane, a friend of the family for more than fifteen years.

Bad target

The investigation is continuing, although no individual has yet been arrested in this case.

According to our information, a friend of Amir Benayad with whom he was on Thursday evening could have been the target of this shooting.

The murder of the young student from Marie-Anne secondary school could thus be a case of mistaken personhood.

“Amir, he was never a bad person,” says Joanis Mufali, a childhood friend of the young victim. Amir, he wasn’t a guy looking for trouble. He was always there for us. My heart is broken. Almost everyone knew him in the neighborhood. He was one of the best guys on the planet. »
