The seventh edition of the Jalisco Handicraft Award 2021 is ready

Since last October 1 and until October 31, the most important handicraft contest in the state arrives in Jalisco, it is the Jalisco Handicraft Award, which rewards the talent and work of the Jalisco artisans of different branches, in addition to them provides the opportunity to publicize their creations and put them on sale.

This year the Award is seven years old and will have great novelties, the most relevant is that it will be carried out in a hybrid way, that is, the exhibition can be visited physically at the Regional Museum of Ceramics (in Calle Independencia 237, Tlaquepaque Centro, Jal.) Or virtually through the platform, which was enabled for the first time for this edition and works as a gallery and encourages online sales by making the payment directly to the artisan; it is also expected that with it new audiences will be captured.


This year 162 pieces were registered in the contest, which come from 27 municipalities of the State.or; 29 will be the artisans awarded in one of the 11 categories that make up the contest: textile, cardboard, paper and glass, hard and semi-hard fibers of animal and vegetable origin, stonework and lapidary, metalwork, saddlery, carved wood and traditional furniture, jewelry and Innovation. The Young Creator Award will also be presented.

The Jalisco Handicraft Award was created with the intention of promoting the recognition of crafts and artisans from Jalisco, as well as supporting artists to create their own trajectory, so that their work is valued and paid in the way they deserve. . In addition, including new technological tools such as the exhibition website is a way to reach many more people and expand the market for handicrafts in the State.

The prizes that will be awarded range from 31 thousand pesos for the “Young Creator Award”; 25 thousand pesos per branch and 14 thousand pesos for the second places in the categories: hard and semi-hard fibers of animal and vegetable origin, carved wood and traditional furniture, textiles, jewelry and innovation, paper and glass, stonework and stonework, cardboard and saddlery.

On the other hand, 14 thousand pesos will be given for seven first places in the techniques of: polychrome clay and high temperature ceramics, burnished clay, decorative crafts – indigenous art, clay decorated with mineral slips, burnished clay, jewelry – indigenous art and objects ceremonial-indigenous art.
