when art echoes the past

The crazy epic of the Bugatti Chiron is coming to an end. The last three versions for the European market are currently leaving the Molsheim factory. These are three special models since they are dedicated to the memory of Ébé Maria Teresa Bugatti, eldest daughter of Ettore Bugatti, the brand’s founder.

Ébé Maria Teresa Bugatti is the author of the biography “L’histoire de Bugatti”, in which many excerpts from her father’s diary were made public. She was an important figure for the French manufacturer, and the brand celebrates her today in its own way thanks to several special versions called “Bugatti Chiron L’Ébé” with several Art Deco elements, one of Ébé’s great passions.

carbon and gold

As on the other Chirons, there are various references to the Bugattis of the past, and in this case in the models presented today, some elements echoing the Type 57 G triumphant at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937. We thus find a blue bodywork with exposed carbon fibers and gold inserts. These inserts, we find them at the level of the diffuser, the fin or even the alloy rims.

The same color chart is repeated in the cabin, with visible blue carbon and alternating light and dark leather, the colors being also reversed between the driver and passenger sides. On each of the two door panels is also illustrated the evolution of the front part of the various Bugattis, from the first racing cars to the Chiron itself, including, of course, the Bugatti EB110 and the Veyron.

Waiting for the heiress of the Chiron

The mighty W16 with 8.0 liters displacement still develops 1,500 hp and 1,600 Nm of torque. This block will soon be retired and will be replaced in 2024 by a model with a powertrain “highly electrified”in the words of Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti-Rimac.

This new engine will likely be developed at the brand’s new research center to be built in Motor Valley.
