Songs sung in Elden Ring are not in Latin and use words randomly generated by PC program

Except for a single song sung in real Latin

If there’s one thing that always shines in FromSoftware’s games, it’s the soundtrack. From iconic compositions that already remind us of bosses (and the agony of facing them), to calmer ambient tracks. In Elden Ring, this is no different. But one thing that has caught the attention of a redditor is the songs sung. While the vast majority thought it was some ancient language like Latin is really just computer randomness.

Yes, it sounds strange, but the singing voices in Elden Ring are actually not singing at all. O redditor Magister Organiwho studies Latin, has been studying the songs sung in the game for a few months now and has come to this conclusion.

Magister Organi began his research with the composition “Song of Lament”, sung in Latin by some “bats/women” monsters. Its translation into English (from Latin) can be seen in this video here. And, according to the redditor, this is the only song actually written and sung in Latin. However, it still has grammatical errors.

He analyzed the Mohg Lord of Blood theme song, which sounds like Latin, but according to the student, none of the words spoken in the composition are in the ancient language, but rather syllables combined to give a dramatizing effect to the song (which is very good, worth mentioning). The same goes for the Godskin theme.

Composers confirmed they are random lyrics

Organi reached out to some of the Elden Ring composers and he got answers from them. With the exception of Song of Lament, the rest of the songs sung simply speak nothing to nothing. He says the letters are made by computer programs and then tweaked to look more like Latin.

The truth is that this is a shame, as more of the lore could be told through the songs. Just take a look at the song sung by the bats, which tell a little about the history of Elden Ring. Magister Organi also says that other songs sung by FromSoftware follow the same path.

The community continues to investigate every bit of the Elden Ring and more discoveries are coming to light. However, it seems that research on the game’s compositions will take a new direction from now on.
