Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are filming a new season of the now famous show The Grand Tour. According to British newspaper The Sun, the trio were recording footage at a disused naval base in Olavsvern near the city of Tromsø, Norway.
Everyone had to drive at full speed inside a narrow, rocky tunnel. According to the first information, the lighting of the tunnel was a problem: “The tunnel lights only came on as the cars sped along, giving all three only seconds to react before they ran out of space”explains The Sun.
James May drove a Mitsubishi Launch Evo VIII when it hit the tunnel wall at 120 km/h. He had to be hospitalized urgently and would have at least broken a rib. A source told The Sun that Clarkson and Hammond were very worried because James “hit his head hard on impact, and he was covered in blood”. He continues that James May “complained of back and neck pain”. He would have taken over the filming of the show “a day or two later”after receiving the green light from doctors.
This accident seems to have been ignored by the production. On Reddit, a user confirms meeting Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond at a gas station in Norway five months ago. He explained in the comments that James May was not present, because he crashed while filming in the city of Tromsø.
We also remember that last March, Jeremy Clarkson posted on Instagram a photo of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII (yellow) and the Subaru Impreza WRX (blue) as a tribute to Ukraine. This therefore shows that the filming of this sequence does not date from yesterday.
We’ll know more about the details once Season 5 airs. The release date has yet to be announced by Prime Video.
