Stephen King’s Adapted Netflix Horror Movie Expands Cast

Netflix to adapt new Stephen King story with upcoming movie Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, whose cast continues to grow.

With the stories of prolific Stephen King being as relevant on the big as it is on the small screen, there was no reason Netflix was missing out on some of his work. After the movies Jessie, 1922 and In the tall grass, the streaming giant is preparing its fourth adaptation of the master of horror. However, the platform did not turn to his old writings, but to his more recent ones. The next movie Mr. Harrigan’s Phone will be based on the Mr. Harrigan’s phone, one of the four short stories that make up his latest collection, If it bleeds published in April 2020 in the United States and in February 2021 in France.

Jaeden Martell in It

This new movie is being developed by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, American Crime Story) and Blumhouse, with John Lee Hancock (Founder, The Blind Side) as screenwriter and director. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone will focus on the unusual friendship between a young boy named Craig and Mister Harrigan, an elderly billionaire living in recluse. When his old friend dies, Craig discovers that he can continue to communicate with him via the Iphone which has been placed in his coffin.

Young Craig will be played by Jaeden Martell (Defend Jacob, At loggerheads, Midnight Special) who made their debut in horror cinema with That and It: Chapter 2, two previous adaptations of Stephen King, but also the appalling The Lodge, directed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz. Old Mister Harrigan will be played by seasoned actor Donald Sutherland (Hunger Games, The Dirty Twelve, M*A*S*H, the invasion of the profaners).

Shortly after the announcement of the star duo, actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Cruella, Why Women Kill) – who will also play in the adaptation of Sandman on Netflix – joined the cast as Madame Hart, Craig’s teacher, described as caring and concerned about her student. More recently, Deadline reported that two new actors have joined the cast. Colin O’Brien, which we will discover in Wonka, will play Craig as a child, while Cyrus Arnold (Zoolander 2, The Exorcist, 8-Bit Christmas) will play Kenny Yankovich, the college bully and Craig’s antagonist.

No specific date has yet been communicated, but Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is currently in production and will be released in 2022 on Netflix.
