Crowds of onlookers filled the streets of New York on Thursday as colorful flying balloons ushered in the holiday season at the Macy’s department store Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Mostly sunny skies and a light breeze are forecast for the annual tradition, which goes back nearly a century.
International cartoon sensation Bluey the Pup will make her parade debut with a balloon that reaches the height of a four-story building and is seven taxi cabs long. The minion Stuart will also be there.
Snoopy, dressed as an astronautwill appear again, parade officials said, just like Papa Smurf, Ronald McDonald and Spongebob.
In this year’s parade there will be 16 giant balloons, 28 floats40 novelty and heritage inflatables, 12 marching bands, 10 performance groups, 700 clowns and a Santa Claus.
The singer Paula Abdul will join the procession of characters, in her first appearance in the parade; indie pop band Fitz and the Tantrums; boy band Big Time Rush; the presenter of “Blue’s Clues & You!” Josh Dela Cruz; the singer Gloria Estefan; gospel singer Kirk Franklin; actor Mario Lopez; reggae star Ziggy Marley; and Miss America 2022, Emma Broyles.
Singers Joss Stone, Jordin Sparks and Betty Who will also be part of the festivities, as will the stars of “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin”, Adam Devine, Sarah Hyland, and Flula Borg. Jimmy Fallon & The Roots will be on a float celebrating Central Park.
Viewers across the country will be able to watch the parade live on NBC and stream on Peacock.
