Kane Hodder says Friday the 13th is his lucky day

We recently spent another Friday the 13th, and for Friday 13 franchise star Kane Hodder, it’s the happiest day of the year. Traditionally, the date has been considered unlucky by the superstitious, and it was even what led to the film earning its title in 1980. The series stems from the alleged drowning of Jason Voorhees on his birthday, which happened is produced on a Friday the 13th, provoking his mother to break up and murder a group of camp counselors several years later.

Hodder joined the series in 1988, beginning his run as Jason Voorhees with the seventh episode, Friday the 13th Part VII: New Blood. He took on the role so well that he became the first person to play Jason in multiple films, as he was back in the mask for Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason goes to helland Jason X. He was looking forward to co-starring with Freddy Krueger in Freddy versus Jason when the role was controversially recast.

Despite this revamp, horror fans still widely celebrate Hodder decades later for his run as Jason Voorhees. This has made him a particularly popular person whenever a Friday the 13th rolls around on the calendar. Asked by TMZ if he thought today was unlucky for him, here’s what Hodder had to say.

Absolutely not. It completely changed my career. I was a stuntman, I’ve been for 45 years now, and I went from an anonymous stuntman to someone who signs things for people. So it was just luck for me. I know people have bad feelings, “Friday the 13th, bad luck”, but I don’t believe it at all. It’s a bit ironic. I think you know I got pretty badly burned doing a stunt early in my career, and it was a 13, but it wasn’t a Friday. Other than that, no bad thing ever happened. »

Kane Hodder wants the franchise to continue

If you’re going to ask Kane Hodder if there should be another movie, it’s definitely a yes. Best of all, he’s willing to reprise the role of Jason if another movie ends up happening.

“There have been 12 films, so how not to make a 13th Friday the 13th? I’m always ready to kill people, and I would like the chance to come back. What’s interesting about this date, Friday the 13th, May 1988, is the day my first Friday the 13th movie hit theaters. So it’s a little ironic to talk to you again on Friday, May 13! »

Hodder also talked about what a difficult role it is to play, even though he understands it well. He also says he’d still be willing to get involved in the next movie, even if he’s not Jason, because it would be “fun” to play a victim.

“It’s a much more difficult role than people realize, because they’re like, ‘Well, there’s no dialogue and you don’t even use facial expressions. For me, that makes it even more difficult… I think there are actors who, if I didn’t, that it would be quite funny for me to be Jason’s victim. Just an ironic twist. ”
