Caitlin Cronenberg wraps filming her directorial debut

Human, an environmental-themed thriller, will be the feature debut of Caitlin Cronenberg, who recently wrapped four-week filming in Hamilton, Ontario. The film is written and produced by Michael Sparaga of Victory Man Productions. It will take place over a single day, months after a global environmental meltdown forced world leaders to reduce the earth’s population using extreme measures.

“From my very first reading, the all-too-possible dystopian world of Michael’s script took my breath away, and I immediately knew I had to be the one to make this movie,” Cronenberg said.

“In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired journalist invites his four adult children to dinner to announce his intention to enroll in the new national euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly wrong, tensions erupt and chaos erupts among his children. »

The cast of the film includes Jay Baruchel, who has already faced the end of the world alongside several other celebrities in This Is the End, Emily Hampshire from Schitt’s CreekPeter Gallagher, who was in Grace and Frankie; Sebastien Chacon from EmergencyAlanna Bale, who you can find in Kind of and Cardinaland Sirena Gulamgaus of Transplant.

Cronenberg is the daughter of famed director David Cronenberg, whose work, among others, includes Scanners, Fly, Dead ringtonesand A history of violence. His brother Brandon Cronenberg is also a director whose feature films include Antiviral, Possessorand the next Overflowing swimming pool.

Previously, Caitlin Cronenberg directed music videos and short films such as The death of David Cronenberga short that used a prosthetic corpse of his father from when he was on Slasher: Flesh and Blood, the fourth season of the anthology series. Caitlin Cronenberg isn’t the only crew member with a connection to the Elder Cronenberg. Doug Koch, director of photography on Future Crimes (2022), will also hold the same position on Human. The film is executive produced by Martin Katz and Karen Wookey of Prospero Pictures, Todd Brown and Nick Spicer of XYZ Films, and Adrian Love and Laurie May of Elevation. Hanna Puley will be the costume designer, while Noah Segal will be the production supervisor.
