Jonah Hill wants to do Superbad 2 when the cast is over 80

If you’re looking forward to a sequel to great times, we have good news and bad news. Jonah Hill, who starred as one of the main characters in the first film, recently told W Magazine that he wanted to do a follow-up film. The downside for fans is that it will be a long time before that happens, because Hill’s only condition for making the movie is that he wants to wait until the actors are much older, maybe in the 80 years old.

“I didn’t pitch this to anyone,” Hill said of the concept. “What I want to do is when we’re 80, do a great times 2. Like, ‘old-house great times. ‘ Our spouses die and we are single again. That’s what I want great times 2 be, and that’s the only way for me to get there.

It doesn’t seem like there’s much wiggle room for Hill to change his mind, apparently being rather fond of the elderly great times idea. Hill’s co-star Seth Rogen also told LadBible in 2020 that it was probably the only film he had worked on that he wouldn’t want to see again. The actor expressed his opinion that great times is pretty perfect as it is and it doesn’t seem to want to interfere with it by making a sequel or a reboot.

“Honestly, I don’t think it needs any upgrades or anything built on top of it,” Rogen explained. “I’m incredibly proud of it. It really holds up – people still watch it, high school kids come to tell me they watched it for the first time and how much they liked it. It has made its way to be considered one of the best high school movies there is. I’m so scared of somehow subtracting from it with a bad sequel or spin-off that I would never do it. I have so few good accomplishments that I’m horrified to fuck with the ones I have.

A female-led reboot is a possibility according to Christopher Mintz-Plasse

Directed by Greg Mottola, great times was released in 2007. The coming-of-age comedy follows two teenagers who plan to lose their virginity before graduation, but that goal isn’t as easy as they hope. Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who plays McLovin in the first film, also acknowledged that the cast didn’t really want to see the movie again. He thinks if a reboot were to happen, the best thing to do would be to give it a twist by having a female-led cast.

“I heard about some of the people who did the first one, and I don’t think they want to touch it. I think they kinda like where he’s sitting,” the actor noted. “And, sometimes, if you do a sequel to things, it can kind of tone down the first one. I think they just want it to be… If there was a way to do it, [a female version] would be the way, that’s for sure. »

In any case, we probably shouldn’t plan to see a sequel to great times enter development in the near future.
