The Inspiration 4 mission is made up of Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments company, medical assistant Hayley Arceneaux, space data engineer Chris Sembroski, and geoscientist Sian Proctor.
The crew is scheduled to take off at 8:02 pm ET / 5:02 pm PT on Wednesday, September 15 aboard SpaceX’s Dragon space capsule, which will orbit Earth for three days before returning to Earth.
Entrepreneur at 16
Billionaire Jared Isaacman, just 38, is the funder of the Inspiration 4 mission, which seeks to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Isaacman is the CEO of Shift4 Payments, an American payment processing company that he founded in 1999, when he was just 16 years old. Currently, the company has more than 1,200 employees.
The youngest astronaut
At 29, medical assistant Hayley Arceneaux will become the youngest American to perform an orbital flight. Arceneaux overcame an osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that was detected when he was only 10 years old, and today he works at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the same facility where he received the treatment. At the age of 18, Oliver Daemen, aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft, became the youngest American to make a suborbital flight in July 2021.
It was planned that one of the Inspiration 4 seats would be awarded to one of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital donors. Although Christopher Sembroski, an aerospace data engineer who always dreamed of getting to space, made a contribution, it was a former college classmate who won the ticket. However, fate had prepared a second chance for him: his friend declined the trip and gave him the space. Sembroski traveled to the SpaceX facility and successfully passed the physical tests.
The most experienced
Geoscientist Sian Proctor is the most experienced of the crew; For this reason, he will serve as pilot for the Inspiration4 mission. Proctor was one of 47 finalists in a 2009 NASA astronaut selection process, out of more than 3,500 applicants. In addition, it has completed four analog (simulated) space missions, including Sensoria Mars 2020, to assess the impact of the Mars habitat on the human body.
The largest private air force in the world
Draken International is another of the companies founded by Jared Isaacman. With a fleet of 70 jet aircraft, including A-4 Skyhawks, MiG-21BIS and Mirage F1CJ, DJ and EJ, it is considered the largest private air force in the world. The company aims to train pilots for the United States Armed Forces.

Sian Proctor is not only an experienced geoscientist. Although fleeting, it has had multiple television appearances. He participated in the post-apocalyptic series The Colony (2010, Discovery Channel), the educational program STEM Journals (2012, Cox7 Arizona), The Scientific Program Genius (2016, PBS), by Stephen Hakwings, and by conducting scientific demonstrations in Strange Evidence (2017 – 2018, Science Channel).
