Lasse Günther is currently an integral part of Germany’s U-19 national team. In Augsburg, however, the talented newcomer still has to be patient.

With a 4-1 victory over the Netherlands, the German U-19s achieved their third victory in the third game of this four-nation tournament after successes against Slovakia (6: 1) and Portugal (2: 1). Also there: Lasse Günther, who was in the starting line-up in two of the three games. His dream would be to even play at FCA, which the 18-year-old joined in the summer – on a free transfer from FC Bayern.
A goal that will take a while, as Markus Weinzierl says. “He’s actually still an A youth player,” says the FCA coach, “a good talent that we want to give him the necessary time.” In addition, Iago and Mads Pedersen are “two players who stand in front of him. Lasse still needs something.”
The left defensive man has already achieved a lot in his young career, playing at the age of 16 in the talent shed of the record champions U-19 Bundesliga and Youth League, the Champions League of this age group. At 18, he also wore the jersey of Bayern’s third division representation. Promising prospects that he pushed aside for Augsburg.
This summer, the defender decided to move to Augsburg. Back to FCA, which he left for Munich in 2016. “We trust him to take the immediate step into our Bundesliga team,” emphasized Stefan Reuter, the sports director at the time. An expectation that has not yet been fulfilled. Which, however, should be fulfilled in the foreseeable future.
