Five thousand candles: the subliminal symbolic act with which they denounced violence against women in Guatemala in the Plaza de la Constitución

Members of the November 25th Coordinator commemorated in the Plaza de la Constitución the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The group placed and lit five thousand symbolic candles that represent women who suffer violence in the country in all its expressions.

They claimed to be the voice of women who, for various reasons, They cannot get out of a violent relationship.

At the same time, they denounced those judges who do not consider femicides as murders but as “crimes of passion.”

A recent report released this Thursday that since 2008 about 10,000 women have been murdered in Guatemala.

The Mutual Support Group revealed that only the first 10 months of this year 538 femicides have already been reported, based on official data from the Public Ministry, the National Institute of Forensic Sciences and the Ministry of the Interior.
