“The Office”: the “Office Ladies” podcast by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey

It’s a podcast that has been making its way since the fall of 2019. Led by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, interpreters of Pam and Angela and best friends in life, it endeavors to decipher the episodes one by one as well as to reveal their backstage. The two accomplices have already produced 101 episodes (the series has 201 for nine seasons) lasting about an hour each.

The actresses regularly receive former stars, as well as screenwriters or producers of the show, in particular Andy Buckley (David Wallace in the series), followed by a double in full confinement, in May 2020, with John Krasinski (Jim) and Oscar Nunez (Oscar) the following week. While everyone was eagerly awaiting the return of Michael Scott (Steve Carrell), the two hosts surprised their listeners for their 69th one and a half hour episode, released in March 2021. Called “Dinner Party”, it brought together a good part of the cast to return to one of the most cult episodes of the series: episode 13 of season 4 in which Michael and Jan receive some of the employees of Dunder Mifflin for a dinner… very special.

“Parks and Recreation”: the podcast “Parks and Recollection” by Rob Lowe and Alan Yang

The principle is the same as the previous ones: debrief each episode by sharing memories and anecdotes. But here, the duo of hosts is more surprising. We find Rob Lowe, alias Chris Traeger accompanied by Alan Yang, screenwriter and producer of “Parks and Recreation” (and bassist of Andy Dwyer’s group, Mouse Rat, in the series). Since September 2021, podcasters have been deciphering the underside of the series, which ended in 2015 after seven seasons.

Episodes last an average of 40 minutes. The advantage is to be able to immerse yourself in the show by selecting the episodes devoted to our favorite moments – and there are many. If there have been no guests for the moment, we are impatiently awaiting the reunion between Leslie (Amy Poehler), Ben (Adam Scott), Ron (Nick Offerman) and the whole gang.

“Newport Beach”: the podcast “Welcome to the OC, Bitches!” by Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clark

Bearing the English name of the series, the podcast is dedicated to “Newport Beach”. Launched in 2021, fourteen years after the end of the adventures of the teenage gang, the unforgettable Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson) and Julie Cooper (Melinda Clarke) return in long episodes (about 1h30) on the back of episodes with many special guests. The podcast is also filmed and broadcast on YouTube, since here the conversations take place on the sofa of a pretty villa. A nice nod to the universe of the Californian series and its four seasons.

“Gossip Girl”: the “XOXO” podcast by Jessica Szohr

She may not be the actress most remembered when thinking of ‘Gossip Girl’, but Jessica Szohr, aka Vanessa, is the first of the team to debrief the series. from the end of the 2010s. Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass), Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald), Taylor Momsen (Jenny Humphrey) and Kelly Rutherford (Lily van der Woodsen) succeeded each other in February, followed by more secondary characters like the interpreter of Eric Van Der Woodsen. “New Girl”: the “Welcome To Our Show” podcast by Zooey Deschanel, Hannah Simone and Lamorne Morris

In 2021, the series celebrated the tenth anniversary of its launch (it stopped in 2018 after seven seasons). A few months later, the actors who played Jess, Cece and Winston met to announce the upcoming release of a podcast. Every week since January 2022, the trio meet by selecting the episodes (there are 146) and the most iconic moments of the series. We are still waiting for the meeting of the five accomplices, but in the meantime, the unpublished anecdotes are beginning to fall. In an episode broadcast in early May, we learned that Bruce Willis was expected to play the owner of the band’s apartment… before the case was dropped.

“True Blood”: The “True Blood” podcast by Kristin Bauer and Deborah Ann Woll

It is the latest and its title needs no explanation. Since February 2022, the vampire Pam de Beaufort (Kristin Bauer) and Jessica Hamby (Ann Woll) have also revisited the episodes of the series stopped in 2014. Here, a guest joins them every week. And the panel is wide since we find both Jace Everett, musician behind the opening track of the show, as the showrunner Alan Ball or the owner of the Bon Temps bar, Sam Trammell. We hope to hear Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, or Alexander Skarsgard soon.

Bonus: the other podcasts of series stars

Some stars of the small screen have embarked on the adventure of the solo podcast to highlight other personalities.

The star of the longest-running medical series on the small screen has understood the usefulness of having her podcast: Ellen Pompeo (who plays Meredith Gray in “Grey’s Anatomy”) has been presenting “Tell me with Ellen Pompeo” for a few months. She receives celebrities and friends who inspire her. The panel of guests is vast: Melinda French Gates, Camille Alves McConaughey, or even Kate Walsh (alias Addison Montgomery in the medical series).

On the “The Office” side, Brian Baumgartner, who plays Kevin, launched “Off The Beat with Brian Baumgartner”. He receives a television personality every week to talk about the secrets of their jobs, their best memories of filming and other anecdotes. Several stars of “The Office” responded, such as John Krasinski. But Brian Baumgartner sees more. Catherine Tate, mythical Donna Noble from “Doctor Who” came to her microphone, as well as Jon Hamm, the illustrious Don Draper from “Mad Men”.

Another series seems to have the wind in its sails lately, while a reboot has seen the light of day in 2021. It is “Gossip Girl”. After Jessica Szohr’s podcast, her co-star Penn Badgley is the latest to launch her podcast. “Podcrushed”, devoted to all facets of adolescence, did not go unnoticed since the first guest was none other than Leighton Meester. The reunion between Dan and Blair has surely allowed the actor – starring in “You” for a few years – to create a solid base of listeners.
