Champions League: Sheriff shoots sharply

Champions League newcomer Sheriff Tiraspol has won his premiere in the highest European club competition. The Moldovan soccer champions prevailed in Group D on Wednesday with 2-0 (1-0) against Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine. The goals for the home side, who had struggled through qualifying, were scored by Adama Traoré (16th) and Momo Yansané (62nd).

In front of 6500 spectators Donetsk had significantly more possession and dominated the game, which was led by the German referee team around Deniz Aytekin. At first, however, the guests only got a dangerous chance from Lassina Traoré.

However, Shakhtar Tiraspol invited to isolated counterattacks in the first round. Adama Traoré used one of them on a pass from Cristiano. It was the first goal of a Moldovan team in the premier class. After the break, the strong Cristiano also prepared the goal for Yansané’s final score.
