The TuS Mechtersheim has to cope with a painful departure. Top striker Alexander Biedermann joins league competitor and leader Wormatia Worms during the winter break, as confirmed by VfR via social media. The 27-year-old scored 16 times in 19 games for the current sixth-placed team in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar Süd, putting him in second place behind Ludwighafen’s Lennart Thum in the top scorer list.

For Biedermann it is a reunion with coach Kristjan Glibo, who once guided him to SV Sandhausen II. “I saw Alexander playing for Ludwigshafener SC in the U19s and caught him in the parking lot right after the game,” said Glibo about their past together. Biedermann, whose qualities earned him the nickname ‘King Kong’, ‘is a typical striker’. He is beefy, good in the air, has a good pace and a very good finish, and yet, explains Glibo, he can be used in different positions.

“Alex has top attacking qualities, and he’s proven that this season,” said sporting director Norbert Hess. “With him we’ve got another type of striker, with physical presence and a very good header. Our squad is now well prepared for the tasks ahead.”

Biedermann, who has also gained experience in Luxembourg’s first division, will receive number 48. His new contract runs until 2023.
