Friday 26 and Saturday 27 November, the Intercommunal Center for Social Action (CIAS) of Pays de l’Aigle (Orne) organizes its annual food drive in partnership with the Orne Food Bank.

This collection is very important in order to ensure the continuity of the food aid provided by the ICAS to families in need. They were 289 in 2020, which corresponds to 688 people and 338 children.

83% of families receive food aid for less than three months out of the year, which means that this aid is ad hoc. It mainly makes it possible to deal with unforeseen events.

Food aid requests are linked for 20% to a budget management problem, for 12% to situations of over-indebtedness, for 11% to the wait for the opening of rights, for 10% to a decrease in resources and for 8% to a large invoice which imbalances the budget.

More collection than ever

In 2020, the collection could not take place due to the health context, however, this period accentuated certain budgetary difficulties and gave rise to new requests for families not known to the service. Today the collection is more important than ever in order to meet the needs of the inhabitants of the territory.

In 2019, the collection made it possible to recover around 9 tonnes of food. It should be remembered that the E. Leclerc center donates 19 tonnes of food every year (fresh produce and groceries) to the CIAS. Added to this are the purchases made by the service, as well as the food provided by the Orne Food Bank (around 10 tonnes in 2021).

This year, the needs concern canned vegetables, canned fish, canned fruit, ready meals, pasta and rice, breakfast products, baby products and hygiene products.

In addition, if you wish to be volunteers, some slots still remain unfilled, so you can contact the CIAS on 02 33 34 70 86 in order to register.
