The Montreal circus company Les 7 Doigts presented Tuesday evening the premiere of its permanent show installed in San Francisco, in the theater of the Club Fugazi.
This show titled Dear San Francisco : a High-Flying Love Story brings together nine acrobats, many of whom have passed through the National Circus School in Montreal. According to Gypsy Snider, co-artistic director of this show, the audience response has exceeded expectations.
“From the start, people screamed with joy. We felt that for many, it was the first time they had returned to the theater for a long time. We are also entitled to two standing ovations even before the show is over! It was very moving ! The public is very touched to be able to celebrate the city, which has known so many ups and downs. “
This tribute show in San Francisco is presented in a 350-seat hall which hosted a satirical cabaret – Beach Blanket Babylon — for 45 years. “It’s hard to believe that you can present circus in this very intimate room, exquisitely renovated like a small opera theater, but it works. The experience is very immersive. “
According to her, many spectators had never attended a contemporary circus performance before taking a seat at Club Fugazi. “Many had never been in contact with the circus as we do in Montreal, in our particular way of telling a story. It’s touching to feel that they are making a discovery. “
