Vicente Fernández: what is known about the possible homage that “El Charro de Huentitán” would receive in Los Angeles

Vicente Fernández is considered one of the most important interpreters in the history of Mexican music.

The legacy of “El Charro de Huentitán” has transcended borders and its popularity in the United States is so great that various towns have spoken out in favor of renaming some of its streets as a tribute to the late singer.

The first town to report its intention to name a street in honor of “Chente” was in the county of Pico Rivera, a city located in Los Angeles, California.

On December 16, 2021, days after the death of the legendary interpreter of Mexican regional music, the community expressed his intention to rename an avenue near the Pico Rivera Sports Arena with the name of Vicente Fernández.

“To honor Vicente’s legacy, the Municipality is studying the possibility of changing the name from Calle del Polideportivo to Avenida Vicente Fernández, a very appropriate action given that“ Don Chente ”presented the Pico Rivera Arena and entertained residents and others in numerous occasions ”, reported the statement published through its official account.

However, this is not the only city in the United States that seeks to pay tribute to the legacy left by “El Charro de Huentitán.”

On January 12, 2022, one month after the death of “Chente”, Councilor Kevin de León filed a motion to rename a street near the legendary Plaza del Mariachi in the Boyle Heights neighborhood, a neighborhood also located in Los Angeles County.

De León recognized the historical legacy left by “El Charro de Huentitán” and highlighted his influence on the entire Latino community living in the United States.

“He has reached every corner of the world and his music has become a daily part of Latino families in Los Angeles,” the councilman acknowledged in an interview with a local newspaper.

Vicente Fernández lost his life on December 12, 2021 after spending more than four months in Hospital Country 2000, located in Guadalajara.

The legendary Mexican artist was admitted to the hospital after suffering a severe fall at his ranch “Los Tres Potrillos” and days later he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
