Vasco confirms better attack, thrashes Joinville and advances in Copinha

(João Carlos Gomes)

That’s 23 goals and four wins in four games! This is Vasco’s campaign so far in the 2022 São Paulo Junior Football Cup. This Thursday (13), owner of the best campaign and best attack in the group stage, Cruz-Maltino confirmed the favoritism over Joinville in the second phase of Copinha and secured the classification by winning the game by a 4-0 rout, with a goal from top scorer Figueiredo, who scored seven goals.

Thus, Vasco continues with 100% of success and continues in the search for the second title of Copinha. The first trophy was won only in 1992. Now, Cruz-Maltino awaits the winner of the confrontation between Audax and Ska Brasil, which takes place this Thursday, at 18:00 (Brasília time).

The game

Vasco started the game with everything, putting a lot of pressure on Joinville and forcing goalkeeper Pedro to work. The Cruz-Maltina team took danger and had good chances to open the scoring, stamping the crossbar, but without success. After half of the first half, the intensity of the match dropped a little and rose again at the end, with a few more opportunities created by the carioca team.

And in the 44th minute, the net finally swung. Vinicius received on the right wing, got rid of two markers and played behind, low, for Andrey. The steering wheel hit the ball firmly and opened the scoring! It was Vasco’s 20th goal in Copinha and his second.

The script was similar at the beginning of the second stage, under a lot of sun in Santana de Parnaíba. Vasco had control of the game and it didn’t take long to expand the advantage. In the 14th minute, JP threw a great ball to Figueiredo, who only touched the goalkeeper’s exit to score the second for the Maltino cross and his seventh goal in the Copa São Paulo.

With the victory on the way, Vasco exchanged passes and managed the result. Joinville, in turn, also did not try to react and even saw the opponent expand the score twice. In the 34th minute, Ruan prevented the ball from going out and touched back in the area. The ball went through everyone and left the second goal with Julião, who swelled the net to score the third goal of the Carioca team. And at 44, Pimentel took a risk from a long way and sent Pedro in the right corner, scoring a great goal to decree the rout of Vasco.
