At 3: 3 at UD Levante, Real Madrid’s defense turned out to be an Achilles heel – in Seville it looked very different. Los Blancos presented themselves defensively stable at Real Betis, but there was a problem on the offensive: Except for one counterattack (Benzema, 6th) and two free kicks (Eder Militao, 8th, 38th), Los Blancos managed nothing in the first half.

Betis was in no way inferior to Real in terms of harmlessness. The Andalusians convinced with a good room layout and a lot of willingness to run, but had zero ideas in the final third. A deflected long-range shot by Rodriguez, which Courtois easily picked up (20th), was the highest of feelings with the hosts.

In terms of play, the game didn’t have much to offer, it was much too rough for that. The duels were courageously conducted on both sides. Betis also liked to overdo it with the harshness, which was also acknowledged with one or the other yellow card.

Real’s increase after the break

After the break, Los Blancos stepped up the pace, increased the pace and settled in the opposing half. Benzema failed with his head on the strongly reacting Rui Silva (52nd).

The home side came under enormous pressure, hardly any relief and fell behind after 61 minutes: Benzema showed a great overview on his cross from the left to the other side to Carvajal – and the ex-Leverkusen skilfully hit the far corner to 1 : 0.

Betis responded to the deficit with their own attacks and realized that Los Blancos were only boiling with water. The game became more open, although top-class players were still rare – or rather: they were not to be seen at all until the literally last action of the game: Tello found Montoya, who had a clear shot but ultimately couldn’t get past Courtois (90 + 7 ). Real Madrid said goodbye to the international break with a minimal success. The bottom line is that the 1-0 win should be ticked off as a work victory.
