Contract until 2026 and two-year loan to St. Pauli: Frankfurt relies on Matanovic

Igor Matanovic attracted a lot of attention at a young age. That brings him a long-term contract with Eintracht Frankfurt as well as a direct loan deal back to his long-term training club St. Pauli. This business should continue to bear fruit.

Has changed club, but remains loyal to the St. Pauli training club: striker Igor Matanovic.

Matanovic has been training at Millerntor since 2010 – and the German-Croatian has come a long way since then. Only last season, in which Hamburg played a strong second half, did the striker make his first 18 appearances in the second division – and already scored his first goal. Now his path at FC St. Pauli continues: Matanovic will wear the brown and white jersey this season as well as the next.

But not only that: At the same time, the 18-year-old talent is also firmly committed to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt this Monday and has been given a contract until June 30, 2026. The Hessians only loan the offensive man directly to the FCSP for two years.

“A loan to his home club makes sense”

The 1.94 meter tall storm tank is a German-Croatian citizen and played for Croatia’s junior national teams when he was a child. Matanotic has also been playing for Germany’s junior teams since the U17. He has already played three times for the U17s (two goals). And for the U18 he has scored as many goals in two games so far.

Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche makes it clear in the official statement why Matanovic was on the SGE’s note: “Igor is a very talented player who is technically adept and physically strong. He has great talent and a lot of potential. For his further development It is important that he gets as much match practice as possible. A loan to his home club makes sense because on the one hand he can help an ambitious second division team and on the other hand he can take further valuable steps in his development this season and next. ”

I owe a lot to the club and I think that I’m in perfect hands with this team and this league at the moment.

And at the Millerntor, the bosses are meanwhile happy that they can still bet on their home-grown produce for two more seasons. Sports director Andreas Bornemann: “It’s a very good and sensible concept for us, just as it is for Igor. He undoubtedly has the potential to play a good role in the Bundesliga. So it was always clear that bigger clubs would be interested . But he knows just as well what he has at FC St. Pauli, the team and the coaching team. ”

Matanovic himself underlines this: “I’m happy about the prospect of getting my chance in the Bundesliga at Eintracht Frankfurt. I’m just as happy that I can take my next steps initially at FC St. Pauli. I have a lot to do with the club.” I owe and think that I’m in perfect hands with this team and this league at the moment. “
