Back in the Premier League: Kabak moves to Norwich – Schalke is "very happy"

FC Schalke 04 was able to surrender Ozan Kabak (21) as hoped – but initially only on loan. At Norwich City, the Turk should help plug the holes on the defensive. The defender knows the Premier League from his Liverpool days.

From Liverpool via Gelsenkirchen to Norwich. Ozan Kabak stays in the Premier League and makes a new attempt at the promoted team. In the meantime, FC Schalke 04 will probably cancel the hoped-for million-dollar turnover for the defender, who was initially awarded and cost 15 million euros two years ago (change from VfB Stuttgart at the time; editor’s note). The club, relegated from the Bundesliga, writes: “The Premier League promoted player has a purchase option for the central defender, which, under certain conditions, becomes an obligation to buy. All parties involved have agreed not to disclose the further modalities of the transfer.”

In the previous second half of the season, S04 had already awarded the Turks to Liverpool FC, trained by Jürgen Klopp. However, the Reds weren’t convinced enough to pull the pre-agreed purchase option. Now Norwich City reacted to the sobering start of the season and therefore presented the urgently needed reinforcement for the defensive. After three game days, the Canaries have already conceded ten goals, more than any other Premier League team (zero points too).

“Ozan can show and prove himself again in England”

“We are very happy that we were able to implement this solution, which was good for both sides, in the last few days of the changeover period,” said Gelsenkirchen’s sports director Rouven Schröder in the official announcement from the second division team. “Under the given conditions, the loan transfer, including the possibility of further signing, is a good package for us from an economic point of view. Ozan, on the other hand, can show himself again in England and prove how much potential he has. We wish him all the best for the season.”

At his new employer, who is being trained by Daniel Farke, Kabak will also meet two old acquaintances from the Bundesliga: the two former Bremen-based Milot Rashica and Josh Sargent joined the Canaries earlier in this transfer period.
