Ubisoft announces new version of The Settlers after 12 years with closed beta this month

The strategy franchise is back and promises a modern experience that respects the past

Ubisoft announced last Thursday (13) a new release of the strategy series The Settlers, which marks its return after 12 years without news. While the company had previously revealed that a game in the franchise was in development, it has long not disclosed information about what it was preparing.

Entitled only The Settlers, the new game represents a reboot for the franchise, started in 1993 by the Blue Byte studio — which soon became known as Ubisoft Düsseldorf. As in previous titles, the objective here is not necessarily to become a conqueror, but to take care of the economic aspects of a colony so that it has a constant and sustainable growth.

To achieve this objective, the player will be able to choose between the Elari, Maru and Jorn factions, each offering advantages and disadvantages in gathering resources and building structures. The game was developed from the engine Snowdrop, also used in The Division is on Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.

Before launch, Ubisoft will promote a closed testing period between the 20th and 24th of January. Registration is now open on the company’s official website, which allows you to choose between the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Connect platform as a way to participate — click here to access.

The Settlers franchise has 30 years of history

Before the announcement of the reboot, the series The Settlers had as its most recent chapter The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom, released in 2010 for Windows and Mac OS. Since then, she’s had launches for mobile platforms and ads like The Settlers: Kingdoms of Arteria, introduced publicly in 2014 — which, after a period of criticized Beta testing, was released in 2016 under the name Champions of Anteria.

In September 2018, Ubisoft released The Settlers: History Edition collection., which brings together all the chapters adapted to run on modern PCs. In the same year, she stated that she was working on a new chapter, whose release was scheduled for the second half of 2020 — close to the expected date, the company postponed the project indefinitely and refunded any reservations it had made.

The new The Settlers is scheduled for release on March 17 exclusively for PC, and will be available on platforms Epic Games Store e Ubisoft Connect. Curiously, the Standard version is coming out cheaper on the Epic platform (R$ 199.99 against R$ 249.99), while the version Deluxe costs BRL 314.99 in both stores.
