The concept known as triple impact plays in this, since it generates social, environmental and economic development. “With this, other repercussions are taken into account, not only the economic one, things are looked at such as what happens with communities that the company has influence on, what are the inputs and natural resources used”, Details Luis Osorio, coordinator of entrepreneurship projects at Connect Bogotá.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, by October of this year they had already been formalized in the country 733 BIC companies, and the goal for 2022 is 1,500 Colombian companies with this model.

They look at things like what happens with communities that the company has influence, what are the inputs and natural resources that are used

This is seen with the emergence of various ventures that, from their conception, seek to generate an impact in all three aspects.

“Today it is very normal that entrepreneurship already has the concept of sustainability in its DNA in your business model. The triple impact is going to be positioned across all industries, ”says Osorio.

“The company was born understanding that this is a problem of economic impact, because it costs the industry money to throw away those foods that it cannot sell, they incur the logistics cost; it also costs the environment, because these food when decomposed produces 8 percent of greenhouse gases and it has a social impact because one in 9 people go to bed hungry and a third of the food produced is thrown away”, Indicates Jorge Correa, CEO of EatCloud.

For this reason, the platform automates the food rescue processes. The system operates in real time and makes it possible to identify food in department stores, points of sale or distribution plants that have a week to expire or a problem in the packaging that makes it difficult to purchase. With this information, they connect with the foundation that can receive the food, depending on variables such as location.

Since EatCloud began operating at the end of 2019 they have been rescued 16,500 tons of food, representing about 36 million servings. This has meant the reduction of 500 tons of CO2 and a saving of $ 30 million of companies in logistics cost.

Toynovo is another of the ventures that was born under this concept, focused essentially on the circular economy “of the game and parenting items and education, which what it does is bring supply and demand together ”, indicates María José Rubio, CEO of the company.

Your bet is to find a greater efficiency in the use and consumption of toys, considering that on many occasions the validity of these products is not fully used, because the boys or girls get bored.

To do this, they created a page that connects the supply and demand of these items; where the user can access different toys for a year by paying a monthly fee. Toynovo allows, in turn, that a family can rent or sell that toy that they no longer use and receive income.

“So far, in terms of environmental impact, we have rescued about 10 tons of plastic, with the 10,000 toy rentals that have already been done. To these toys their lives have been lengthened 24 times”, Points out Rubio.
