Spanish international defender Sergio Ramos It will continue its program of individualized training under medical supervision for the next ten days, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced on Thursday.
The purpose of this program is “the return to collective training,” said the medical report of the French club, with which Ramos has not yet made his debut after his signing last July, due to a series of injuries and discomfort.
Ramos, 35, played his last game on May 5, in the Champions League semifinal tie between Real Madrid and Chelsea.
PSG coach, Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, regretted the length of his absence, but was convinced that he will regain his level.
“I have no doubt that he will be able to find his best level, it is hard for every athlete, it is not a pleasant situation to spend so much time without being able to train with teammates and be able to play,” said the coach at the press conference prior to the League game tomorrow, Friday, against Angers.
Ramos “is suffering but is mentally strong, the entire coaching staff and the entire club are helping to keep him high and to continue with the motivation to overcome this problem,” he added.
After his arrival at PSG, the former Madrid player has barely been able to train with the rest of his teammates due to injuries. He arrived ‘touched’ in the left soleus and when it seemed that he could recover last September, he suffered a relapse that again took him away from training.
According to the newspaper L’Équipe, the footballer is pressing to advance his reappearance, but the medical body prefers to opt for prudence given his history of injuries in recent years in a muscle that already caused him problems in 2018 and 2019.
His incorporation to the group would have been a support for Pochettino, who will not be able to count on the Latin American internationals, retained with their teams due to the calendar problem caused by the pandemic.
This is the case of the Brazilians Neymar and Marquinhos and the Argentines Lionel Messi, Ángel di María and Leandro Paredes, as well as the Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who left the duel against the United States at halftime with discomfort.
In the latter case, Pochettino assured that they spoke with the goalkeeper, who indicated that he preferred not to continue “more out of prudence”, although he did not want to assess whether he has an injury until it is explored by the club’s doctors upon his return to Paris.
The Argentine coach complained about these problems that prevent him from having a full squad, said that this type of situation hurts the teams that have more internationals, but acknowledged that they will have to adapt and that “there are no excuses.”
“We have a large group of players and they have to perform. We will compete in the best way,” he said.
On Neymar’s statements in which he hinted at the early end of his sports career, Pochettino said: “He is a sincere person, he quickly expresses his feelings, but he has great mental strength. Since he was a child, he has been playing football and with a media focus. very big, everything is oversized. I don’t think I have any problem. “
Pochettino does recover the French and Italian internationals, Kylian Mbappé, Presnel Kimpembe, Marco Verratti and Gianluiggi Donnarumma, who played the final phase of the League of Nations.
He also recovers footballers who played in the middle of the week, such as Guaye, Hakimi, Nuno Mendes or Diallo and assured that there are options for Spanish Juan Bernat to enter the group, after a long injury.
Before facing Leipzig in the Champions League next Tuesday, PSG will face Angers in the league, after having suffered the first defeat of the season against Rennes on the last day.
