Tesla Model S Plaid: brakes as expensive as a Honda Civic!

The Tesla Model S Plaid is the new flagship car of the Californian manufacturer, capable of reaching 100 km / h in 2.1 seconds and covering the quarter mile in 9.23 seconds thanks to its three electric motors which together develop a power of 1,020 horsepower.

For those who still want to improve their performance on the track, the company will offer a series of options and accessories. First item on the list: a set of carbon ceramic brakes.

Obviously, several other cars are known which are available with such stronger brakes. What catches attention here is the price: $ 25,400. Yes, you read that right. It’s roughly the equivalent of the new Honda Civic 2022!

Even the big rival of the Model S Plaid, the Porsche Taycan Turbo / Turbo S, is far from asking for as much, or $ 7,400 at most.

Tesla mentions on its site: “Designed for the ultimate on-track experience, the Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit is a complete hardware package that delivers maximum and repeatable stopping power during high performance driving. “

The set includes all new carbon-silicon carbide discs with a diameter of 410mm, which offer maximum durability and thermal management at high temperatures, one-piece forged calipers with six pistons in the front and four pistons at the rear, high performance brake pads and brake fluid formulated for high temperatures.

It is only compatible with the Model S Plaid equipped with 21-inch Arachnid wheels and will be available for order from mid-2022. Considering the car starts out at $ 169,990 (at the time of this writing) , what is $ 25,000 more?
