Nintendo Switch sold 170,000 units in Japan with the arrival of the new Pokémon

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is already the biggest launch in the history of the Big N

Some games are system sellers, those that make someone buy a specific platform just to be able to play them. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet seems to be that kind of game, as 170,000 new Nintendo Switch units were sold in Japan in the opening week of Game Freak’s gameaccording to Famitsu🇧🇷

Nintendo’s hybrid console has been a colossal success in its home country since it was launched, but with the arrival of the new generation of Pokémon, sales still manage to stay high. For comparison purposes, the PS5, second best selling console in Japan, reached about 33,000 units sold in the same period, between 14 and 20 November.

The 170,000 units sold of the Nintendo console is a sum of the different Switch versions available. The Xbox Series X and S together sold 1,527 units, still behind the 5,803 PS4 sold in the same period.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is Nintendo’s biggest hit

Nintendo announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet had sold over 10 million copies worldwide, with 4 million remaining in Japan. The game is Nintendo’s biggest launch ever. According to Famitsu, during the first three days of release, 2.53 million copies were sold in Japanese lands.

Behind Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is Splatoon with 36,958 copies sold (3,368,155 since launch), and God of War Ragnarök for PS5 with 9,901 units sold in the aforementioned period (and 39,278 sales in total in Japan).

Despite the historical success, acceptance by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has not been the best, as the game arrived with numerous bugs and performance issues. It’s not hard to find videos of characters with eyes bulging out, awkward movement, textures failing, and the list goes on and on.

O Digital Foundry, in his technical analysis, said that the games have so many problems, that it is difficult to present them all. The game’s textures are of low quality, jaggies are everywhere, shadow and lighting issues in some environments, problematic physics, distant characters and objects that move with less than 10 FPS and so on.

Well, the sales numbers prove that, even with all that, the series continues to be the success it always was.
