Mercedes continues the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of its AMG division. After presenting the special editions of the G-Class, the A-Class and the CLA, the German manufacturer unveils the Edition 55 dedicated to the GLE and GLE Coupé.
Six different Mercedes-AMG models (from the understated 53 to the wild 63 S) have been revamped with unique interior and exterior liveries. It will therefore now be even more complicated to go unnoticed with such a machine.
Recognizable at first glance
The GLE Edition 55 is distinguished by its gray livery on the sides and its 22-inch alloy wheels available in black metallic and diamond white metallic with dark gray inserts. This special series also receives some “Edition 55” logos and a chrome tank cap bearing the AMG inscription.
The cabin also receives some specific elements with black and red Nappa leather upholstery, carbon fiber elements and an AMG Performance steering wheel with a microfiber rim. The “Edition 55” logo also appears on the dashboard and floor mats, while the door sills receive red-illuminated AMG lettering.
Up to 612 hp with electric input
As mentioned above, the GLE and GLE Coupé Edition 55 are available in 53, 63 (not available in France) and 63 S versions. and 520 Nm for a 0 to 100 km/h shot in 5.3 seconds and an electronically limited speed of 250 km/h.
The 63 versions both receive the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with, respectively, 571 and 612 hp. The 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.8 seconds for the 63 S version. Here, the top speed can reach 280 km/h as an option.
All these models feature micro-hybridization with EQ Boost technology. The car incorporates a small 16 kW electric motor which provides additional power during acceleration phases. All models are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
