Students of the Carlos Tejedor Institute made a census and beach cleaning day in the north of Mar del Plata.
The initiative, which is carried out every year in coordination with the survey of the Provincial Organization for Sustainable Development (OPDS) But that in 2020 could not be carried out due to the coronavirus pandemic, it seeks to raise awareness in the population about the importance of keeping the sand sectors clean and -on the other hand- to understand the problem of garbage on the beach.
For an hour, around 60 boys and girls surveyed 420 meters of beach and collected all kinds of waste. The dynamics of the day took place in groups of two people: one registered and the other lifted the garbage.
To give dimension of the amount of garbage that one can get to find on the beaches, the organizers mentioned that “only a couple of boys counted more than 125 cigarette butts in 400 meters“. “It is shocking”, they slipped.
