As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced on Saturday a few hours before the start of the competition, the Olympic champion felt a stitch in his knee during training.
“As a precautionary measure, he will not be competing this weekend,” the federation tweeted. The 26-year-old from SC Ruhpolding is also missing in the individual competition this Sunday (4:00 p.m.).
Wellinger tore a cruciate ligament in his right knee in June 2019 and was out for a long time afterwards. After breaking his collarbone in March 2020, the 2018 Olympic champion had to take another break.
It was only this season that Wellinger once again achieved top ranks, but is still a long way from the top results of earlier times.
