State of Terror, by Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny, released this week

(New York) Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is releasing a novel this week she wrote with a friend, Canadian novelist Louise Penny.

The text of the English-language action novel State of Terror, which was completed a few months ago, stars as the main character Ellen Adams, secretary of state in a new administration led by a former rival. Mme Clinton herself inherited the post when President Barack Obama took office in 2009, who had been her opponent for the Democratic Party nomination.

In the novel, Secretary of State Adams finds herself grappling with one of the worst scenarios Hillary Clinton imagined while stationed in Washington: international terrorism involving nuclear weapons.

The nearly 500-page novel contains several allusions to recent American news.

Collaboration with Louise Penny

For her part, Louise Penny, who is a native of Toronto, has been living in Estrie, Quebec, for many years. She is particularly known for her detective series featuring Armand Gamache, of the Sûreté du Québec, which has been translated into several languages.

Louise Penny has been a member of the Order of Canada since 2013 and an officer of the Ordre national du Québec since 2017.

State of Terror is the first novel by the former Secretary of State; it is published by the Simon & Schuster publishing house. Some of Louise Penny’s works have been translated into other languages, but it is not yet clear whether this will be the case for State of Terror.
