It was tricolor this Saturday at the Morumbi gym. São Paulo had a great performance in the second game of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB) and beat Sesi Franca by 87 to 74. With a win for each side, the series is tied and we will have at least two more games.
Franca had won the first game on Thursday (12) by 80-78 and started strong. The team opened 9-0 on the scoreboard, with winger David Jackson hitting three balls from outside the perimeter in the first minutes of the confrontation. But soon the São Paulo tricolor recovered and began to dominate the match, turning the game around in the first quarter, which ended with São Paulo winning 19-17.
São Paulo fired in the second quarter. Highlighting the performances of Marquinhos and Tyrone, who missed the team in the first game in Franca, the tricolor went to halftime winning by 51 to 28.
Franca had an improvement in the third quarter, with a high use of free throws (11 of 12 converted shots) and a good defensive performance. However, the attack of the team from the interior of São Paulo made few shots to the target which did not help to reduce the advantage of São Paulo on the scoreboard.
The interior team even rehearsed a reaction during the last quarter. The tricolor slowed down at the beginning of the partial, allowing Sesi Frana to touch the score, with the difference dropping to seven points with less than two minutes left in the game. But Marquinhos and Tyrone scored a series of three-pointers to secure the victory for São Paulo.
Tyrone was the highlight of the match. The São Paulo player had a double-double, with 28 points and 11 rebounds and was still the scorer of the game. Another tricolor highlight was Marquinhos, who had 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. On the French side, Lucas Mariano and Márcio were the main scorers, both with 14 points.
It is worth mentioning that the NBB semifinals are played in the best of five games, that is, whoever wins three advances to the final. The third game will be held at Ginásio do Morumbi on Monday (16) at 8 pm, again at Ginásio do Morumbi, broadcast by ESPN and the NBB YouTube channel. The fourth game – and an eventual fifth and decisive match – will be at Pedrocão, in Franca, on a date yet to be defined.
