He decided that together with his family, said the 38-year-old American in a video interview published on Friday on the Bundesliga club’s homepage. “It was a great trip, but then it will be time for something else,” said Paulding.

“It is a good feeling that I can choose when to say goodbye myself and that I am still at a high sporting level,” said Paulding. The American moved to Oldenburg from France in 2007 and from then on only played for the club from Lower Saxony. In 2009 he won the German championship with the EWE Baskets, and in 2015 the trophy. Paulding has so far scored 7583 points in 552 Bundesliga games, making the Oldenburg captain the second best scorer in BBL history.

“There is no second time like Rickey”

“There’s no other like Rickey. He’s a gift for this club and this city. He gave us many wonderful moments,” said Baskets managing director Hermann Schüller. “I knew that this moment would come at some point. And yet you don’t want to admit it,” said Oldenburg coach Mladen Drijencic, who is happy to have the crowd’s favorite still available this season.

In addition to Per Günther from Ulm, another long-standing top performer will end his career in the BBL next summer.
