Loaned Union footballers so far only with very moderate success

Union Berlin has currently awarded four players. The hope of match practice was not really fulfilled by the professionals concerned.

Injuries also slowed down Dominique Heintz, who was loaned to Bochum by Union.

Dominique Heintz, Keita Endo, Rick van Drongelen and Laurenz Dehl could not prevail at 1. FC Union. Therefore, they were temporarily sent to other clubs. But it hasn’t brought the quartet much.

Dominique Heintz was brought in from SC Freiburg in January 2022. After just nine competitive games, he was gone again in early August 2022. He saw better starting eleven chances at league rivals VfL Bochum.

Heintz is plagued by injury problems

Heintz also got this in his four Bundesliga appearances. But longer periods of injury were no longer possible. The 29-year-old was first plagued by muscular and then back problems.

Keita Endo joined Union in 2020 as a Japan international. But it didn’t really work with the midfielder. In two years, the 25-year-old only made 21 appearances (1 goal).

Union signed him from Yokohama F. Marinos in April 2021. But Endo only played sporadically after that, just four times in 2021/22. He made ten appearances for second division side Eintracht Braunschweig in 2022/23, but only in the second division.

Defender Rick van Drongelen was transferred from Hamburger SV in the summer of 2021. So far he has not played a single competitive game for Union. In the second half of 2021/22, the Irons awarded him to the Belgian first division club KV Mechelen (10 appearances).

Nine point games for Rostock

After returning in the summer of 2022 and training at the FCU in the meantime, he was loaned out again, this time to the second division team Hansa Rostock. Nine point games are recorded. The 23-year-old Dutchman was in the starting XI five times. He has not yet risen to become a regular player.

Youngster Laurenz Dehl is to be developed as a right-back. But in order to be able to play, he was loaned out for the second time after the 2020/21 season when he was with third division club Hallescher FC.

However, he only played once for the Irish first division club Bohemians Dublin. On 12 August he played 45 minutes against Dundalk FC (0-1). After that, the 20-year-old was no longer in the squad.

In 2023, a change is likely to come by summer at the latest

The season, which was carried out in a spring-autumn rhythm, ended in sixth place. Dehl should then return to Union. He has no prospect of assignments at Union. In 2023, a change is likely to come by summer at the latest. In principle, this also applies to Heintz, Endo and van Drongelen.
