Coach Jaka Lakovic is leaving ratiopharm Ulm after three years. As the Swabians announced, the Slovenian used an exit clause to switch to the top Spanish club CB Gran Canaria.

“It gives me a great opportunity to coach a team in the best European league, a team that is in the ACB play-offs every season and can go far in the EuroCup,” said the 43-year-old Lakovic, explaining his motivation for the change and also added family reasons: “I worked in Spain for a long time, my wife is Catalan, even our children speak the language.”

In Ulm they now have to start looking for a successor, but Lakovic should be fondly remembered. “We were twice in the semi-finals of the play-offs, once in the semi-finals of the cup and sensationally reached the quarter-finals in the EuroCup last season,” said sports director Thorsten Leibenath, who thanked us for the time we had together.
