Europeans shine in the beach tennis finals in Brasilia

Saturday was the decision at the ITF Sand Series Decathlon Brasília Classic’22, the biggest official Beach Tennis tournament in the world. The Italians Sofia Cimatti and Nicole Nobile, in the female, and the Spanish Antonio Miguel Gomes Viera and the Italian Michele Cappelletti, in the male, were the champions of the tournament.

The event, which brings together the best players in the world, coming from 17 countries, ends this Sunday (19), with the dispute of the quarterfinals, semifinals and mixed doubles final, starting at 9 am. The semifinals and finals – women’s and men’s – moved the external area of ​​the BRB Mané Garrincha Arena, where the games will be held, throughout the day and night.

Cimatti, 29, and Nobile, 26, – seeded 3 and number 6 and 3 in the world rankings, celebrated the title by beating the world’s number 1 duo of compatriots Giulia Gasparri and Ninny Valentini, who share the lead in the ranking. Cimatti and Nobile scored 7/5 and 6/0, ending an unbeaten run of 24 games by the opponents. After a very balanced first set, the champions didn’t give any chance of reaction in the decisive set. It is the second title that Cimatti and Nobile have won this month in Brazil: they were champions of the ITF BT 400 in Valinhos, in the interior of São Paulo.

“Very happy with the result. It’s great to play in Brazil, a huge satisfaction, with all the fans, in very well organized tournaments. We played an almost perfect match in the final, we made very few mistakes and that led to the title. play with Nicole and celebrate this achievement”, said Cimatti.

Viera, 28, and Cappelletti, 30, number 1 and 4 in the world and seeded 1 of the tournament, were champions defeating Brazilian André Baran and Russian Nikita Burmakin, seed 3, number 7 and 3 in the ranking. Viera and Cappelletti – technical partner of Decathlon – scored 2 sets to 0, with partials of 7/5 and 6/4. It was the 11th achievement of the duo, the fifth this year, which was also champion this month in Uberlândia (MG), in a repeat of this Saturday’s final. They also won in Campinas (SP), Reunion Islands and Barcelona.
