It is a bad message that Hertha BSC had to announce on Thursday. A good month after the 1-0 defeat in the relegation first leg against HSV on May 19, a supporter of the capital club died in hospital. “It is with great dismay that we learned of the death of a Hertha fan who succumbed to his injuries,” the Bundesliga club said on its website.

According to the SID, the 55-year-old no longer had a pulse on Tuesday and his heart stopped beating. The reason: the man was beaten up after the game. According to witnesses, he got into an argument with the passenger of a car. The previously unknown perpetrator, who is said to have worn a top with the club logo from Hansa Rostock, got out and hit the fan in the face with his fist. He fell and hit the back of his head on the road.

In the end, the trailer succumbed to his serious injuries as a result of the crime. The announcement is concluded as follows: “Our association will do everything in its power to fully investigate this act that is to be condemned. We urge witnesses to contact the Berlin police.” Everyone in the club was “deeply shaken by this incident and their thoughts are with the family and all relatives.”

The State Criminal Police Office is now investigating the fugitive perpetrator for bodily harm resulting in death.
