O palm trees is at the end of Brazil’s Cup under-17 next week. The Palmeiras base faces the Vasco next Tuesday, at 21:30 (Brasília time), against Vasco, at Allianz Parque. The captain of Verdão, Gabriel Vareta, planned the first leg.
The under-17’s starting defender called the crowd for the decision.
“I couldn’t be happier with the team and the performances we’ve had in the seven matches that have taken us here. There were four knockout matches in which the team showed a lot of maturity. We passed Atlético (MG) with authority and fought a tough duel against Sport. We are ready and focused to seek the third championship”, said Vareta.
With the classification for the final, Palmeiras has already overcome its last campaign. Champion in 2017 and 2019, the team seeks to win the competition’s third championship.
“Last year, we stopped in the semifinals. So it’s a joy to have reached this year’s decision. Now, we want the title and we are working to leave our 110% on the field”, commented the defender. “We are going to try to assert the command of the field on Tuesday, the support of the Palmeiras fans will be fundamental for this mission. I’m sure they’ll push us through the ninety minutes,” he concluded.
Palmeiras’ under-17 campaign so far is good, with six wins in seven matches. In addition, the team adds routs and good performances. Alviverde eliminated the Atlético-MG in the quarterfinals by 8 to 1 on aggregate and, to reach the final, beat the sport by 7 to 5 in the junction of the scores of both matches.
The return match takes place on Sunday, June 26, at 11 am (Brasilia time), in São Januário. Palmeiras and Vasco will fight the duel between the best attack and the best defense. Verdão has scored 36 goals, an average of approximately five per match, while the defense of cruzmaltino has suffered only four goals so far.
“We have studied Vasco, and their campaign is very good, having defense as one of the pillars of the team. But we are confident in the solidity of our work and it will be a challenge for both sides, I’m sure it will be a high level match”, concluded Vareta.
