Canadian GP, let’s give the votes! Our report cards

After the Canadian GP that saw Max Verstappen triumph in front of Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton, it’s time to give the votes!

Max Verstappen, grade 10 – Simply perfect weekend. Crazy qualification in the rain but he imposes himself and wins the pole. In the race he makes no mistakes and is not intimidated by the pressure of Carlos Sainz. It is no coincidence that he is the current World Champion.

Carlos Sainz, grade 9 – Bravo, finally a race where we saw what the Spaniard is made of. The victory escapes him but snatches the additional point from Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton, score 8.5 – Do you remember the Mercedes driver with a sore back and distraught after the Baku GP? Here, yesterday’s looks like a distant relative. Sir Lewis is back and he well deserves the podium.

George Russell, grade 8 – Describe English in one word: consistency. Another TOP 5 in addition to the risk of putting the slick in the wet during qualifying. Chapeau!

Charles Leclerc, rating 7.5 – Fantastic comeback from 19th position and he does not get nervous by Ocon who we know is not very inclined to be overtaken easily. He makes a mistake at the pit stop, arriving long and thus losing important seconds but when he returns to the track the Monegasque recovers the positions up to fifth place, 3 seconds behind Russell. Yes Charles, you have every right to think you can win the title.

Esteban Ocon, rating 6.5 – It must be said that yesterday Alpine did everything to favor him over his team-mate but the Frenchman manages to do a good race, manages the tires well and keeps Leclerc behind for some time.

Fernando Alonso, rating 6.5 – Qualifying 10, in the race the team makes an inexplicable strategy, not calling the Spaniard to the pits during the Virtual Safety Car and that rightfully in the radio team is a furious bull, especially when the team orders him not to overtake Ocon. As if that weren’t enough, he receives a penalty for changing trajectory on the straight and loses two positions.

Valtteri Bottas, vote 7 – But good! Do you remember when in our direct they called him ironically “Gregorio”? Past times, now Valtteri drives with passion and determination. He finishes seventh (with the penalty of Alonso) after starting eleventh.

Guanyu Zhou, grade 7 – Our apologies must be made to the Chinese driver. Yes, because rightly angry for Giovinazzi’s dismissal, we all thought that Alfa Romeo had only taken him for cash and that he would not have paid off in the race. Instead… in the race he comes back and gets points for the second time this season.

Mick Schumacher, grade 7 – Just compare him with his father. He will probably never win seven world titles, he will probably not become a Legend and rightly so. He is not recommended, he did not arrive in Formula 1 only thanks to his surname and the results in Formula 2 prove it. Mick is growing up on his own and we often forget that. He might be lucky enough to have his dad there in the garage, ready to spur him on and give him advice but we know the harsh reality. So, before giving judgments let us reflect. Very good in qualifying and that’s why he deserves more than enough, too bad for the power unit problem that forces him to retire.

The others: Lance Stroll (6), Sergio Perez (4), Yuki Tsunoda (NC), Kevin Magnussen (NC), Alex Albon (5.5), Sebastian Vettel (5.5), Daniel Ricciardo (5.5), Lando Norris (5) , Pierre Gasly (5), Nicholas Latifi (3)
