Bruna Alexandre is gold and Brazil closes the Slovenian Open with 12 podiums

Class 10 Paralympic vice-champion Bruna Alexandre returned with full force to international events. Eight months after winning the silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, the Brazilian won the Slovenian Open table tennis title, a factor 40 competition on the world circuit, which ended this Saturday (14th) in Lasko.

In the entire competition, Bruna lost just one set in four matches played in the single group. This Saturday, she beat two opponents by straight sets to secure the title: the Romanian Ioana-Monica Tepelea (11/2, 11/6 and 11/3) and the Turkish Merve Demir (11/4, 11/6 and 11/ 7).

But it wasn’t just Bruna Alexandre who had the opportunity to celebrate on the podium at the European event. Saturday still reserved six more medals for the Brazilians: three silver and three bronze.

One of the silver medals won in the women’s class 4 individual. Joyce Oliveira beat Germany’s Sandra Mikolaschek, 3-1 (11/9, 13/11, 1/11 and 11/7), in the semifinal, but ended up being surpassed by Thai Wijittra Jaion, 3-0 (12/10, 7/11 and 9/11).

Silver also for two doubles, one female and one male. In the WD20 class, Danielle Rauen and Jennyfer Parinos were beaten by the Turkish Neslihan Kavas and Merve Demir, 3-0 (10/12, 5/11 and 8/11). In MD14, Israel Stroh and Paulo Salmin fell to Thais Thainiyon/Wangphonphathanasiri, with 3-1 on the scoreboard (11/6, 7/11, 4/11 and 7/11).

The three bronze medals went to women, all in individual disputes. The vice-champion Cátia Oliveira fell in the semifinal of the 1-2 class to the Italian Giada Rossi, by 3 to 1 (11/3, 8/11, 6/11 and 7/11). The other bronzes came in the women’s class 9, with Danielle Rauen, surpassed by the Hungarian Alexa Szvitacs, by 3 to 1 (6/11, 11/9, 2/11 and 3/11), with Jennyfer Parinos, won by Neslihan Kavas, 3-0 (6/11, 8/11 and 8/11), both in the semifinals.


With the seven medals won this Saturday, Brazil closed the Slovenian Paralympic Open with 12 medals. There were one gold, three silver and eight bronze.
