Brazilians advance in the individual and doubles of the Pan-American under-19

The Pan American Under-19 Table Tennis Championship, in Rosario, Argentina, had another day of games this Friday (5th). Individual disputes began, male and female, doubles in both suits and also mixed. After the two silver medals for teams guaranteed the day before, most Brazilians advanced in the competition and, with that, started towards winning more medals.

In the men’s individual, Henrique Noguti debuted in Group 1, beating Peruvian Adrian Rubinos 3-1 (11/9, 12/10, 7/11 and 11/8). He then beat Argentina’s Tobias Hurevich 3-0 (11/7, 11/6 and 11/4). This Saturday (6th) the under-19 Pan-American Games will be played; Henrique will face Jabdiel Torres, from Puerto Rico. For Group 2, Joon Shim debuted with a 3-2 loss to Ecuadorian Neycer Robalino (9/11, 3/11, 11/8, 11/1 and 6/11). Then he beat Diego De La Cruz, from Guatemala, 3-0 (11/4, 11/6 and 11/6) and qualified. His opponent in the phase of 32 will be the Chilean table tennis player, Eusebio Vos.

Leonardo Iizuka and Felipe Arado will debut next Saturday morning (6). While Felipe faces the Argentine Nicolas Callaba in the knockout stage, Léo waits in the round of 16 for the winner of the duel between Paul Ignacio Ponce, from Venezuela, and Nandan Naresh, from the United States. In the women’s individual category of the Pan under-19, Sabrina Miyabara was eliminated in the group stage after losing her two matches by 3 to 1 to Canadian Nicole Cai (11/9, 9/11, 11/13 and 2/11) and the Chilean Macarena Reyes (9/11, 7/11, 11/4 and 6/11).

This Saturday, Giulia Takahashi, Laura Watanabe and Beatriz Kanashiro will play their first game in the round of 16 of the individual Pan-American under-19 tournament. Giulia takes the winner of the duel between Dulce Lopez (Guatemala) and Emily Liu (Canada); Laura faces whoever wins the match between Nicole Cai (Canada) and Daymar Castro (Puerto Rico); while Beatriz will face the winner of the match between Edmarie Leon Burgos (Puerto Rico) and Aurora Andrade (Mexico).

Joon Shim and Felipe Arado, on a comeback, defeated Argentines Lautaro Sato and Nicolas Callaba 3-2 (2/11, 9/11, 11/5, 11/5 and 11/9). This Saturday, in the quarterfinals, they will face the Chileans Eusebio Vos and Jeremias Paredes. The table tennis duo made up of Leonardo Iizuka and Henrique Noguti played an exciting match against Ved Sheth and Darryl Tsao, from the United States, and won a hard-fought 3-2 victory (10/12, 12/10, 5/11, 9/11 and 13/11). Laura Watanabe and Giulia Takahashi beat Guatemala’s Dulce Lopez and Stafanie Orellana 3-0 (11/5, 11/1 and 11/7. This Saturday, they face Chilean Fernanda Araneda and Sofia Vega in the quarterfinals. Sabrina Miyabara and Beatriz Kanashiro also faced a duo from Guatemala, formed by Jenny Cux and Monica Mejia. The Brazilians won 3-1 (9/11, 11/7, 11/6 and 11/3) and this Saturday, on Wednesdays, the Canadian Crystal Liu and Nicole Cai.

Leonardo Iizuka and Giulia Takahashi beat Canadians Simeon Martin and Crystal Liu by 3-2, in a comeback (7/11, 10/12, 11/5, 11/7 and 11/5) and guaranteed a spot in the quarterfinals. They will face, this Saturday, the Mexican team composed by Bogdan Olivos and Arantxa Cossio.
