The Brazilians had already done a great eliminatory test, in the morning, when they recorded 7:57.93 and also came in sixth place. Despite having a worse time in the final, they did very well and fought for fifth place until the end, finishing behind Hungary by 0.53.
The gold of the race went to the United States, which broke the championship record, with 7:41.45. The silver went to Australia, with 7:43.86, while the bronze went to Canada, with 7:44.76. China fought for the podium until the end and finished fourth with a time of 7:45.72.
In addition to the relay, Stephanie Balduccini also wrote her name in the 100m freestyle by achieving the best result in Brazil in World Cups in this event. With a personal record, she scored 54.10 in the semifinal and placed tenth overall, very close to advancing to the final and breaking the Brazilian record. Before, the young woman, who is only 17 years old, had scored 54.48 in the qualifiers.
The day was not very busy for Brazilians at the World Cup. Aside from Balduccini, only one other swimmer has seen action in Budapest in an individual contest. It was Caio Pumputis, who competed in the 200m breaststroke. He didn’t make it through the heats of the race, after scoring 2:12.72 and being eighth in his series, finishing with the 19th best time overall.
