Sandro Schwarz only made one change in personnel after the DFB Cup loss at Eintracht Braunschweig (5:6 on penalties): In the Bundesliga city derby at Union Berlin on Saturday, the Hertha coach relied on new signing Filip Uremovic in central defense alongside the seeded Marc Oliver Kempf.

But the ousted Dedryck Boyata didn’t slip to the bench, but completely from the squad. “If there is no injury, it is a sporting decision that has to be made. We made it today,” said Schwarz before kick-off on “Sky”.

As alternatives for Kempf and Uremovic, the new coach preferred to take the youngsters Linus Gechter (18) and Marton Dardai (20) to the Alte Försterei. Boyata, who had already lost the captain’s armband to Marvin Plattenhardt in the pre-season, has to line up far behind.
