Alpine, Esteban Ocon: “We have a competitive car”

Esteban Ocon returns to Montreal after four years of absence. Not only because of covid, the Frenchman has missed this appointment since 2018, the year in which he forcibly abandoned Formula 1 after two years in Force India. The return did not seem the best, at least in the early stages of FP1, when a plastic bag got stuck in the A522 brake basket. Despite this inconvenience, Esteban is back on track but is only fifteenth, while team mate Fernando Alonso seems unstoppable in third position. In FP2 in French he returns to tenth position, but the qualifying foresees rain and we know that, in particular conditions, anything can happen.

It’s nice to be back in Montreal and driving here after four years of absence for me. Today we tried to find the grip with the track. The car is important in the sector and optimizing it in the best possible way for such a track and I think we worked well in both sessions. – explained Ocon – we were a bit unlucky at the beginning of FP1 with that plastic bag that got stuck in the right front brake, making me waste time, but despite this it was a productive day. We dodged the rain for a few minutes, but it seems that qualifying will be wet and the ranking could be revolutionized, making it more interesting. It seems we have a competitive car, we hope to be able to take advantage of every opportunity“.
