Sony is replacing the studio behind the new Twisted Metal

Return of the franchise is in the hands of developers at Firesprite

Recent rumors indicate that the Lucid Games, the developer responsible for Destruction All-Stars, was no longer working on the new franchise game Twisted Metal, now new information indicates that the Sony already put another studio in control of the project. From now on, whoever is developing the new game becomes the studio Firesprite Games, which was bought by the Japanese giant last year.

The new franchise game has been debated since September last year, when the journalist from GamesBeat, Jeff Grubb, obtained information that the game was at the beginning of its development. Since then, rumors have pointed out that the Lucid would be responsible for creating this new free-to-play car combat game.

However, beginning of this week the portal VGC managed to gain access to new information on how the project of the new Twisted Metal, stating that a Sony moved him to an unknown studio of his own. Now the site has managed to discover that the studio Firesprite, based in Liverpool, is officially taking over the development.

This studio was bought in September by the Japanese giant and is known for having created games like The Persistence, the games PlayRoom do PlayStation and are also working on Horizon: Call of the Mountain to PSVR2. One of the possible reasons for this exchange could be because of Matt Southern, who directed some games in the franchise MotorStorm and was game director at Lucid, but he recently moved to the Firesprite com maintained the same function.

With Matt switching studios and possibly being one of the leaders of the new Twisted Metal, it makes perfect sense for the Sony transfer the project to his new studio. Officially, the Japanese giant has not yet made any kind of announcement about the new game in the franchise, but during the CES 2022 the company talked about its commitment to the franchise, but mostly mentioning adapting the game as a TV series.

Some rumors point out that the new franchise game should arrive along with this new TV show, which should debut in 2023. The series will have the famous actor as the protagonist. Anthony Mackie, who is known as ‘Hawk’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
